The world's largest salt desert
The Great Rann of Kutch stretches to the horizon in every direction — 7,500 square kilometres of blinding white salt crust left behind each year when the monsoon floodwaters evaporate. At the edge of Dhordo village, the crust begins, and the land simply stops behaving like land.
Full-moon nights
On purnima nights the Rann turns silver-blue and the horizon disappears entirely. Camel carts roll out onto the crust after sunset, and the silence is total. This is the image that brings most travellers to Kutch — and it is better in person.
Rann Utsav
From November to February the tent city at Dhordo hosts the Rann Utsav — folk music, craft bazaars, and hot-air balloons over the salt. Book tents early; the white-desert sunset slots fill months ahead.
