In a single household in Nirona, the Khatri family keeps rogan art alive — castor-oil paint drawn into thread-fine motifs with a metal stylus, a Persian technique now practised nowhere else in the world. Watching a tree of life emerge freehand is the best fifteen minutes in Kutch.

Down the lane, Lohar families hammer and tune copper-coated bells by ear — each one pitched like an instrument — while lacquer craftsmen spin rainbow patterns onto wooden spoons with heat and friction.
