Gateway to the salt

Dhordo is the last village before the Great Rann's white expanse takes over completely. Every winter it transforms into Tent City for the Rann Utsav — the state-run festival of Kutchi music, food, camel safaris and stargazing that draws visitors from across the world.

Tent City

Rows of Swiss cottage tents and luxury bhungas sit within walking distance of the salt flats, run by Gujarat Tourism alongside private operators. Evenings mean folk performances, bonfires and a bazaar of Kutchi handicrafts sold by the artisans who make them.

Craft roots

Dhordo and its surrounding hamlets are home to Meghwal and Mutwa embroidery families — many of the mirror-work and bandhani pieces sold across Kutch trace back to workshops within a few kilometres of here.
